Ringshall & Barking WI
Ringshall & Barking WI, formed in 1933, is part of the National Federation of Women's Institutes (NFWI)
and of the Suffolk East Federation (SEFWI)
The popular image of ‘Jam and Jerusalem' may have been relevant twenty or thirty years ago but today's WI is much more free-thinking and there are numerous opportunities for activities, talks and crafts to suit everyone's interest. (Some WI members have never made jam!)
Ringshall and Barking WI is a lively and friendly group, which meets on the second Tuesday of each month in Barking Village Hall. At present we have more than thirty members but are always keen to introduce new ladies. All ages are welcome as it is in everyone's best interest to share ideas and experiences. There is no lower age limit - well, maybe 18!!
The group also enjoys several out-of-meeting activities, eg: visits to places of interest, theatre trips, Summer walks and pub lunches. A card-making group hold a craft day three or four times a year plus there is a thriving book club and crochet group who meet monthly.
"The Suffolk East Federation frequently organises lunches, exhibitions, competitions and many other activities which are open to all members. This year, 2019, celebrates the Centenary of WIs in Suffolk. A number of extra special events are being planned, the main one being a Centenary Fair at Trinity Park on Tuesday 3rd September.
The subscription for 2019 is £42, which is divided between our own Institute, Suffolk East Federation and the National Federation."
